Smart contracts in Belgium

Demo

Smart contracts, also known as self-executing contracts, are permitted in Belgium. While no specific directive has yet been created, common contract law applies. Except when it comes to consumer credit contracts, generally Belgian contracts do not necessitate formal requirements and the computer code making up a smart contract can be deemed a valid agreement depending on if the validity requirements under Belgian law are satisfied. Even though some attempts have been made to evaluate smart contracts based on Belgian legislation, a large degree of uncertainty still persists.1
